NOTIFICATION                 New Delhi, dated the 1st March, 1997

G.S.R.          (E).- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-
item (6) of heading No.98.01 of the First Schedule to the Customs
Tariff  Act,  1975  (51 of 1975), the Central  Government  having
regard  to  the  economic  development  of  the  country,  hereby
notifies  road  development projects  of  the  National  Highways
Authority  of  India as projects for the purposes  of  assessment
under  the  said  heading  and for the  said  purpose  makes  the
following  amendment  in the notification of  the  Government  of
India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No.42/96-
Customs, dated the 23rd July, 1996, namely:-
 
      In  the  said notification, after serial number 19 and  the
entry relating thereto, the following shall be added, namely:-
      "20.  Road  Development Projects of the  National  Highways
