RURAL DEVELOPMENT (I) RURAL EMPLOYMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION (Rs. 6805.70 Crores) 1. Jawahar Rozgar Yojana ( Rs.2077.70 crore). - About 520 million mandays will be generated in 1997-98. - 65 per cent of the fund to be released to Gram Panchayats. 2. Employment Assurance Scheme (Rs. 1970 crore ). - 1970 crore rupees for providing assured unskilled wage employment of 100 days to those seeking such employment in the lean agricultural season in all the rural blocks in the country. 3. Indira Awas Yojana (Rs.1190 crores) - About 7 lakh houses to be built for the rural poor under Indira Awas Yojana. 4. Millions Wells Scheme - 448 crores provided for Million Wells Scheme. 5. Integrated Rural Development Programme including Rural Artisans ( Rs.611.00 crore) - 12,000 Rupees per family investment and a credit mobilisation of Rs.2142 crores is targeted. 6. Ganga Kalyan Yojana (Rs.200.00 crores) - 200 crore rupees provided for Ganga Kalyan Yojana. (II) RURAL DEVELOPMENT (Rs.2195.00 crores) 1. Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (Rs.1302 crore) - 90000 habitations will be provided safe drinking water by March 1998. 2. National Social Assistance Programme (Rs.700 crores) - 49.52 lakhs old persons to be covered by National Old Age Pension Scheme. - 3.19 lakhs household of deceased to be benefited under National Family Benefit Scheme. - 29.15 lakhs expectant mothers to be benefited under National Maternity Benefit Scheme. 3. Rural sanitation (Rs.100.00 crores) - 10 lakhs sanitary toilets to be provided to individual household below poverty line. AGRICULTURE - 33375 crore of rupees are expected to flow to agriculture sector through all credit institutions. - 23500 hectares to be brought under drip irrigation. - 40000 hectares to be brought under intensive fish culture and 40,000 fish farmers to be trained under the programme development of fresh water acquaculture. - 16560 farmers and 2760 agriculture extension officers/subject matter specialists to be trained to promote integrated Pest Management. ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING - 72.20 million tonnes of milk production targeted. COAL AND LIGNITE - 291.50 million tonnes of raw coal production targeted. - 16.50 million tonnes of lignite production targeted. EDUCATION - 200 crore rupees provided for schemes to be launched on the occasion of the Golden Jublee of India's Independence. - 960 crore rupees provided for Nutritional support to Primary Education. - 651.31 crore rupees provided for District Primary Education Project. FERTILISERS - 96.10 lakh tonnes of Nitrogenous fertiliser production targeted. - 28.80 lakh tonnes of Phosphatic fertiliser production targeted. HEALTH - 200 crore of rupees for National Malaria Eradication Programme including Kala-azar. - 75 crore of rupees provided for Leprosy Eradication Programme. - 100 crore of rupees for AIDS Control Programme, with special thrust on blood safety measures and control of sexually transmitted diseases. - 90 crore of rupees for Tuberclosis Control Programme. KHADI & VILLAGE INDUSTRIES - 1000 crore of rupees credit availability to production units. NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY SOURCES To instal - 180000 bio-gas plants and 30 lakh improved chulhas. - 25000 solar photovoltaic (SPV) domestic lights; 60000 solar lanterns; and 1000 solar photovoltaic pumps. - 35000 solar cookers to be deployed. - 415 MW of power from renewable energy to be made available, including 350 MW of Wind Power, 20 MW of small hydro power and 45 MW of power from Biomass combustion/ gasification/cogeneration. PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS - 34.37 million tonnes of crude oil production targeted. - 24552.25 MMCM natural gas production targeted. POSTS - 4000 Extra Departmental Branch Post Offices to be provided with infrastructural equipments. - 100 Head Post offices' Savings Bank Control Organisation to be computerised. - 500 Extra Departmental Branch Post Offices to be opened. POWER - 3005 MW addition to installed capacity. - 424.50 billion units generation targeted. SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES - 100 dedicated branches of banks for better credit flow. - 145 crore of rupees for Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana, to assist 2.20 lakh educated unemployed youth. - 140 crore of rupees for Rural Employment Generation Programme. SURFACE TRANSPORT - 500 crores of rupees provided for the National Highway Authority of India. STEEL - 15.63 million tonnes of saleable steel targeted. TELECOMMUNICATIONS To instal - 29 lakh direct exchange lines. - 36 lakh lines of switching capacity. - 3.25 lakh lines of trunk automatic exchange capacity. - 0.83 lakh public phones. RAILWAYS - 26000 wagons, 1790 coaches, 328 locomotives and 240 EMUs to be added. - 2770 track kilometres renewal. - 500 route kilometres of electrification. - 850 Routes kilometres of gauge conversion. - 5 Rail buses to be provided this year. WASTELAND DEVELOPMENT - 127000 hectares area to be developed under Integrated Wasteland Development Project Scheme. WELFARE OF WEAKER SECTIONS - 250 crore rupees provided for opening Kasturba Gandhi SwatantrataVidyalas for girls in selected districts,including tribal areas across the country where female literacy rate is low. - 65 crore of rupees provided for Post Matric Scholarships by which about 22.45 lakhs students likely to be benefited during 1997-98. - 326.60 crore rupees provided towards Special Central Assistance for Special Component Plan by which about 30 lakh Scheduled Castes families likely to be benefited during 1997-98. - 96 crore rupees provided for National Scheduled Caste/Tribes Finance and Development Corporation by which about 30,000 S.C./S.T. people likely to be benefited during the year 1997-98.
